2005 - Events Summer 2005 - Ocean Stars Tsunami Appeal | |

In the summer of 2005, Jim Bernardin brought out his own Pan CD to help raise money for the Ocean Stars Tsunami Appeal charity run by Dilanee Bunter in Surrey. Through his school and gig contacts £400 was raised and presented to Dilanee in August of this year. Dilanee returned to Sri Lanka in October to oversee a number of projects which she is investing in, to help rebuild the lives of families after the 2005 Boxing Day's devastating Tsunami. Please telephone or e-mail Steel Pan Events to purchase a copy of the CD, priced £10 including postage and packaging. For each CD purchased, £5 is donated to the Ocean Stars Tsunami Appeal.

| Winter 2005 - 'Genius' TV Show | ||

Late in 2005, Steel Pan Events Soloist Jim Bernardin enjoyed the privilege of teaming up with Rachel Heyward to play a Steel Pan duet (Island In The Sun) for a BBC pilot panel show called 'Genius'. The idea of the show is for members of the public to sell a unique and possibly genius idea to the panel made up of Dave Gorman and a special guest celebrity. For the pilot show this guest was illusionist Paul Daniels. This particular idea involved tuned urinal targets in pub toilets that would enable gentlemen to urinate and play a tune at the same time. In order to test the theory Jim and Rachel were invited to play this classic Caribbean song using high powered water guns! Needless to say the idea didn't get the vote but the song sounded awesome! |
